Howdy, y'all!
I have a reason for not updating in a while, even though it's a crappy reason. I misplaced my poetry notebook. "Wasted" was just finished and transcribed into it. The sensible thing to do: a) buy new notebook, b) transcribe or rewrite old work, c) business as usual. What I did: stopped writing poetry, except in scraps and snippets, and didn't update DA for months. Well, I found my notebook again, so now I'll have to come up with another reason for my lack of diligence.
Some DA notes, then random stuff. I put a mature content sticker on "Wasted" because I was a little fuzzy on DA's mature/not guidelines. "Wasted" has some naughty words. It should probably also be a WIP, since it's lyrics, but no music to go with. I'm working on something that's a reeeally significant break from most of my stuff. Met with some friends around Christmas to noodle around on guitars, and generally goof around musically. One friend came up with an interesting, rollicky chord progression. Friend's girlfriend's visiting daughter came up with the oddball beginnings of lyrics. Months later, I'm still trying to polish up the lyrics to my liking. I'll finish them eventually. They'll be fun. And odd.
Random stuff: I've started seeing a woman. I'm superstitious, so I'll leave it at that. It's fun.
I really like going to see local music (local being NE Ohio). So if you happen to be in the area:
The Rememberings- Radiohead-ey, Bjork-ey, My Bloody Valentine-ey goodness. Fantastic. Just wish they played out more.
Lia Fail- bluesy, jazzy, Irish folk rock. They're loads of fun. They also don't play enough.
The Long Haul- a punk band that listens to Johnny Cash? Yep. Their country/bluegrass spin gives punk a little more melody, and makes for a really interesting sound.
The Black Keys- forget Devo, this blues-rock duo is Akron's real contribution to music. These guys are phenomenally talented, and are starting to step into national/international prominence.
Rachel Roberts- folk rock with bite. She's funny, clever, has a great voice, and is just about the most charming musician I know personally. With her full band, her music gets a funk spin that DEMANDS dancing.
Anne E Dechant- no NE Ohio lesbian's playlist would be complete without her. Upbeat, passionate folk rock, and a personable woman to boot.
Templeton's Zeal- a very talented trio, in some ways reminiscent of the Black Keys. Hard, bluesy rock
Disown- dark industrial from the rust belt
Over the Rhine- not exactly local (they hail from Cinci) but definitely worth mention. Jazzy, folksy, they've played extraordinarily the two times I caught them at the Lime Spider.
later, y'all,
Erin
It was fun to hang out.
Haven't been in touch with you for a looooong time!
